Spring is here, and it is the best time of the year to give some clarity and order to our closets.
Does this sound familiar? Your closet is full of items and still, every morning, you feel frustrated about what to wear. You want to walk out the door feeling put together, but you constantly feel you are missing that specific item which will make the outfit.
Here are a few possibilities of why this is happening.
TOO MUCH FAST FASHION
You've filled your closet with tons of affordable items you bought over weekly quick shopping trips (yes H&M, Zara and Forever 21, we are talking about you), but you are missing those quality core items that will make you look put together. After wearing and washing those Fast Fashion pieces too many times, they just look tired and frumpy when you try them on because they aren't made to last.
TOO MANY SALE ITEMS
You found some great bargains on the sale rack, but they don't actually match anything else in your closet. You want to rock that amazing new pair of designer shoes you got at 50% off, but you can't find a single piece to match them, making you feel that you need to shop even more to find complementary pieces.
Perhaps you bought an orange dress or an emerald green shirt because they were the color of the season, but you realize orange or green doesn't suit you at all. Or maybe 80% of your wardrobe is composed of black items "because you live in New York", and you are starting to realize it might be too dark for your complexion.
WRONG FIT AND SIZE
You never bring things in for alterations. Sometimes you bought too much stuff online and kept it even if it didn't fit you perfectly. Or, maybe you bought off the rack the size you have always bought, without re-evaluating if that is still the right fit. As a result, your clothes are not in-synch with your body, you feel insecure about people noticing that the sleeves of your shirt are too long or that the hem of your pants is kept together by staples.
CLOTHES DON'T MATCH YOUR CURRENT LIFESTYLE
You have a closet that would be wonderful for somebody with a different life. Maybe you have a dozen cocktail dresses but you haven't been at a party in a year because you were busy launching your business or being at home with your newborn. Or, perhaps you got a cool new job that involves weekly social happenings but you still wear the same clothes of your old corporate job.
All of these, are very common scenarios. If you would like to learn what colors and silhouettes look best on you, get rid of the items that make you waste time every morning, learn how to shop for your lifestyle and avoid spending money on items that you are not going to wear, I am here to help!
